Abstract
Objective: To determine characteristics of children diagnosed with Tuberculosis in the Pediatric Outpatient Department - Atma Jaya Hospital from January to December 2014.
Methodology: The present descriptive study was carried out on 26 children with Tuberculosis. The samples were taken by total sampling methods from medical record at Atma Jaya Hospital in Jakarta between January to December 2014.
Result: Sixty two percent of the total samples were comprised of boys. The proportion of patients aged under five is 42%. Fifteen percent of patients had history of positive TB contact, while 20% patient did not. Nutritional status of patient was dominated by moderately depleted nutrition, as high as 50%, severe malnutrtion by 35% and adequate nutrition by 15%. The percentage of clinical manifestastions of TB included 81% with fever, 70% with chronic cough,26% with enlarged lymph nodes and 4% with enlargement of the bones. The combination of clinical symptoms was dominated by symptoms of fever and chronic cough, which is 50%. The percentage of patients with radiological examination suggestive of TB was 85% with the most radiology images shows infiltrates in the lung fields. Tuberculin Skin test was found positive in 61% of the cases. Patients which scores = 6 in the scoring system was 27%. As many as 73% of other data could not be calculated as the data was incomplete.
Conclusion: Tuberculosis was more common in boys and at the age under five. TB contact history data were difficult to obtain in the medical record. Many pediatric patients with TB suffered from malnutrition. Clinical symptom most commonly associated with TB was fever, but commonly found in children was the combination of fever and chronic cough. The results of radiological examination suggestive of TB were found in almost all patients with TB diagnosis with most radiology image shown infiltrates in the lung fields. Positive Mantoux test results were found in most patients diagnosed with TB. The scoring system could not be analysis because the recording process of the data was incomplete.
