Abstract
Background: Stress is a normal physical response to events that exceed someone’s adaptability. One of the ways used to relieve stressis by playing games. Playing games can relieve stress that someone have but it can also cause a person to become a game addiction. Many research showthat the proportion of stress and game addiction among medical students are quite high.
Purpose: This research intends to find the relationship between stress and game addiction among medical students in Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia.
Methods: This research is an analytic cross-sectional study on 102 respondents. The respondents consisted of class year 2013, 2014, and 2015 medical students in Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia. The Depression Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS )questionnaire was used to determine the presence or absence of stress, and the Videogame Addiction Test (VAT) questionnaire was used to determine the presence or absence of game addiction. Analysis data was done with the chi square test.
Result: From 102 respondents in total, 46,2% of respondents experience stress, and 26,5% of respondents have game addiction. The number of respondents who are experiencing stress and game addiction is 16,7%. This research shows that there is no association between stress and game addiction (p=0,068).
Conclusion: There is no association between stress and game addiction among medical students in Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia.
