This present action research study attempted to investigate the effectiveness of mind mapping in imroving students' writing quality. The focus of investigation were students' habit in planning writing, the improvement of students' writing scores and the students' perception on mind map in writing. Sixteen students who were selected from 181 students of grade XI Santa Ursula BSD were invited to join this study. The data were collected from class observation, focus group interviews, pre-test and post-test scores, semi-structures interviews and questionnaires. The data revealed that mind mapping was effective to help students in writing plan, however most students preferred not to employ this method because of the longer process that they had to carry out. Thus, mind mapping can be considered as one strategy in writing plan on the condition that the students have adequate time in completing the whole process of writing. |
