| UKM Vega Shoes is one of the UKMs that produce shoes in Bogor. In the process of managing the raw materials carried out by UKM Vega Shoes, the process of cutting the raw materials into parts for further processing frequently happens. Currently, the problems of cutting the UKM’s raw materials still be worked out manually without any careful planning; it also still depends on the operators’ experience in determining the cutting pattern. Whereas, UKM Vega Shoes has to produce products with competitive selling price and profit as huge as possible. This has been an important factor that pushes the optimization in the raw materials usage and production planning. The settlement method for the optimization problem can be done with the settlement of approaches (approximation). Heuristic method is a settlement method that uses the concept of approaches. Optimizing the use of raw materials can be done by rectangular approaches that is finding the minimum cutting pattern of the materials in order to reduce the use of materials so that the volume of the production can be maximized. Based on the results of the research in the UKM, the conclusions are: 1) The monthly production of the current condition rate is at 150 scores shoes. The use of jeans and inner fabrics, each of them, is 531,3 m2. Profit gained per month is Rp 52.999.500,00; 2) In producing 150 scores shoes, the use of jeans and inner fabrics as a result in minimizing the use of materials is 489,1 m2. The minimized use of materials can save material usage by 11%. The projected profit per month gained is Rp 54.175.350,00; 3)The production rate each month in 2016 has successfully been increased from 18 to 168 scores shoes. Maximizing the production volume along with the availability of the existing materials, result in the use of material that could reach 99,82%.
