Ulama is one of the important central figure in education in Indonesia and is a key figure in building characteristic of the Indonesian nation based on the principle of Pancasila. Along with the development of era, Ulama faced many complex problems of Muslims increasingly. The objective of this paper is to try to look at and to analyze the relationship of the Ulama and Islamic society (Institutions and Social Institutions), particularly in educational institutions and power. The method use literature review and current conditions outlook. It is concluded that the Ulamas who have roots in Muslim societies, in their work in education field have spread his ideas through the establishment of educational institutions themselves, particularly through the Madrasah institutions in particular and public education through college. Similarly, their work in the institutions of power, The Ulamas sometimes are willing to cooperate with the authorities, sometimes they put a distance, and sometimes stay as an opposition of the rulers, who is eventually, all Ulamas agree that leaders are servant of the society.
