Isi artikelIndonesia’s democratic elections have created opportunities for new players, not all of whom are on the ballot. These new entrepreneurs— pollsters and political consultants—seek to connect the people with the politicians, make a cool profit in the process, and are a growing force in Indonesian politics. During last year’s presidential and legislative elections, polling institutions and political consultants began making headlines right along side the parties and the candidates they were working for, at times creating more publicity and controversy than their clients. While their notoriety has fallen since the end of the national elections, their role in regional and local elections is greater than ever before.
