Isi artikelEarly September saw Burger King join Unilever, Nestle and Spanish energy company Abengoa Bioenergy on the growing list of companies who have cancelled purchasing contracts with PT Sinar Mas Agro Resources and Technology (SMART). The decision can be chalked up as another win for Greenpeace and the relentless and aggressive campaign they have fought against Sinar Mas, a campaign that claimed the company cleared High Conservation Value (HCV) forested land and destroyed carbon-rich peatlands. Burger King’s decision came in the wake of an audit that cleared PT SMART of most of the allegations, finding that the company had not logged any primary forests, but had planted on peatland greater than 3 metres deep.
