Abstract
Village of Parapat is located in Simalungun District, North Sumatra Province. Development in information and technology led to the emergence of organic farmers in Parapat Village. The increases of the awareness from consuming chemical-free food ingredients, fertilizers that are environmentally friendly, as well as the expectation of an increase in the standard of living is some of the background to the emergence of organic farmers.Departing from this, the development of organic waste composter assessed the potential to support the productivity of organic farmers in Parapat Village. By using the Quality Function Deployment (QFD) method, organic waste composter was designed based on the needs of organic farmers in Parapat Village. Gradually, the data is processed by using House of Quality (HOQ), and eventually to design the level of detail in accordance with the QFD steps. Once the design is finished, the machine was created and tested. The result is a machine that capable of producing compost with a long process of composting for 28 days. After that, also conducted a cost analysis for calculating the value of BEP. The result is, the machine will break even during instrument produces compost as much as 1001.042 kg.
