Abstract
Heat transfer science could be applied in many ways. It could be used to analyze the heat transfer in heat exchanger unit. Heat exchanger is the device used to transfer heat from hot fluid to cool fluid without mixing them. This research discusses about heat exchanger usage as a plastic recycler. This plastic recycler works based on this principal. In this device, the hot fluid’s energy is transmitted to the cool fluid to generate temperature increase. waste plastic is put on the cool fluid. As the result, the waste plastic was melted because of temperature in the cold section would gradually increase until it reached the melting point temperature of plastic. The conclusion of this research is that the rate of fluid flow affects the generated heat and its thermal effectiveness. The fluid flow rate increased, thermal effectiveness tends to decrease and the heat to increase. The highest effectiveness was found to be 78.2% at the flow rate of 3.611m/s and the lowest was 64.6% the flow rate is 9.53m/s.
