Abstract
Background : Heart and blood vessel disease is become on of the main health problem in developed countries and developing countries. This disease is becoming the biggest cause of death in the world. Rising blood pressure or known as hypertension also called the silent killer because it is a deadly disease without any symptoms and become one of the risk factor of the heart and blood vessel disease. As one of the risk factor of hypertension, obesity should be alerted. Obesity can be measure with body mass index (BMI), waist circumference and neck circumference. Because obesity is one of the risk factor of hypertension, then someone with obesity potentially become hypertension In order to determine this point, the relation between obesity, which measured by some nutrition indicators (body mass index, waist circumference, neck circumference) and blood pressure will be further researched.
Objective : The aim of the research is to determine the relation of some nutrition indicators with the blood pressure.
Methodology : Research is done by measuring blood pressure, body mass index, waist circumference, and neck circumference in Catholic University of Atmajaya employee on October 2015 until November 2015. Chi square and logistic regression were used for data analysis.
Results : Correlation between body mass index, waist circumference, neck circumference, and blood pressure was significant (p<0.000). Logistic regression that the variable which affect the blood pressure from the highest to the lowest is waist circumference (OR = 4.300), neck circumference (OR = 3.058) and BMI (OR = 2.975).
Conclusions : There is relation between waist circumference, neck circumference and BMI with blood pressure.
