Abstract
Background : Metaplastic and non metaplastic gastritis incident reached above 50% of the world population. H. pylori infection could increase metaplastic and non metaplastic gastritis. This research intended to find out prevalence of H. pylori on metaplastic and non metaplastic gastritis at Anatomic Pathology Laboratory School of Medicine Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia/Atma Jaya Hospital.
Materials and methods: It was an analytical descriptive, cross-sectional study for 5 years (2009-2013). We collected all paraffine’s blocks and slides of gastritis that were stained by HE and Giemsa to review the histopathology diagnostic and the presence of H. pylori.
Result: There were 37 gastric biopsies that consisted of 30 (81.1%) non metaplastic
and 7 (18.9%) metaplastic gastritis. Out of non metaplastic gastritis, 27 (90%) were negative and 3 (10%) were positive of H. pylori. All of metaplastic gastritis (100%) were negative of H. pylori. Fischer’s Exact Test result was 0.523 (p > 0.05).
Conclusion: There was no significant difference of H. pylori prevalence between non metaplastic and metaplastic gastritis at Anatomic Pathology Laboratory School of Medicine Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia/Atma Jaya Hospital for 5 years (2009-2013).
