Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is a global infection disease that mostly seen in tropical area such as India, Thailand, Myanmar, and Indonesia. DHF is caused by Dengue virus which carried by Aedes mosquitoes.Papaya (Carica papaya L.) is a plant that can be found in subtropical and tropical area, such as South America, India, and Indonesia. Besides as a food, papaya also believed to have effect on curing many diseases, such as cancer, pain during menstruation, digestive problem, also DHF. The usage of papaya leaves extract is expected to accelerate the increase of platelets in patients with DHF.
Objectives. The aim of this paper is to know the effect of papaya leaves extract to increase thrombocytes in patients with DHF.
Methods.The search is done with keywords like “dengue”, “thrombocyte”,and “papaya”on Springer Link, NCBI, ProQuest, and Google Scholar.
Results and Conclusions.There is effect of papaya leaves extract in increasing thrombocyte counts in patients with DHF. Active ingredients in papaya leaves that can increase thrombocyte in patient with DHF are saponins, tannins, cardiac glycosides, and alkaloids such as carpaine, pseudocarpaine, and dehydrocarpaine I and II. Papaya leaves extract can be used to increase thrombocyte count in patient with DHF,either only with pure extract, or combined with another natural ingredients.
Suggestion. It is better for this paper to be realized as a research. The administration of papaya leaves extract in research is preferably given alone without another natural ingredients. |
