Abstract
Background: Pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) may decrease lung’s development that decrease the functional capacity. The lower in functional capacity is thought to cause a decrease in quality of life. Six minute walk test could be used to evaluate functional status. This study was conducted to assess the association of six minute walk test and quality of life of patients with pulmonary tuberculosis (WHOQOL-BREF).
Objective: To assess the relationship of functional capacity and quality of life in patients with PTB.
Method: This descriptive analytic study with cross-sectional design was using respondents who underwent medication at the Internal Medicine of Atma Jaya Hospital. The inclusion criteria are positive pulmonary TB, gender to male or female, and aged 19-59 years. Exclusion criteria are patients comorbid with other pulmonary and heart disease, have a restrictive neuromusculosceletal disease, resting heart rate> 120 beats / minute, and high blood pressure.
Results: There were 38 respondents with the lowest quality of life scores in physical domain for 45.89 and the highest score 61.84 for the social domain. The average six minute walk test was 226.07. There was no significant relationship between functional capacity and quality of life (p> 0.05, r <0.2)
.Conclusion: There is no significant relationship between the domains in the quality of life and functional capacity in pulmonary tuberculosis patients in this study.
