Background.Vaginal discharge is white, sticky mucous discharge from vagina and uterine cavity. Around a quarter of female in South East Asia has reported this symptom. The most prevalent cause of vaginal discharge is infection, especially in the case of bacterial vaginosis. Previous studies have discovered that unhealthy genital hygiene behaviours play a role in the incidence of vaginal discharge. Objectives.The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between genital hygiene behaviors and the incidence of vaginal discharge on female students of the Faculty of Medicine of Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia. Methodology.This research is an observational, cross-sectional study conducted using questionnaires distributed in the Faculty of Medicine of Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia. Sampling is done using categorical descriptive formula. The questionnaires contain questions regarding vaginal discharge and genital hygiene behaviors. Data is analyzed using the kai kuadrat test with confidence level of 95% ?? = 0.05) Results.The chi-square test result comparing the incidence of vaginal discharge with bad genital hygiene behaviors shows that there is a relationship between the habit of changing pad less than six times during menstruation and the incidence of vaginal discharge (p<0.05). On the other hand, other behaviors are not related to the incidence of vaginal discharge on the respondents (p>0.05). Conclusion.The habit of changing pad less than six times during menstruation is related tothe incidence of vaginal discharge on female students of the Faculty of Medicine of Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia. |
