Abstract
Backround. Yogyakarta province had the highest number of elderly population in Indonesia. The increasing number of elderly population would increase the prevalence of degeneration disorder, such as degraded cognitive function. Physical and social activity had a contribution to prevent degraded cognitive function. The goal of this research was to learn about the effect of physical and social activity to cognitive function in elderly population at Pedukuhan Murangan, Sleman sub-province, Yogyakarta province. Methods. Analytic descriptive, cross sectional study. All of the samples were taken by stratified random sampling. Total of the respondents were 107. The research population was elderly more than 60 y.o. in Pedukuhan Murangan, Sleman sub-province, Yogyakarta province. A questionnaire was used to collect all of the data then would be analyzed with Chi Square test and simple regression analyze. Result. There was a significant correlation between physical and social activity level with cognitive function (p=0.0000; OR=25.1), (p=0.0000; OR=42.2). The influence of physical activity to the cognitive function was 33%, the influence of social activity to cognitive function was 25.4%. Conclusion. Physical and social activity had effects on reducing the risk of cognitive function disorder, but physical activity had bigger influence than social activity.
