Abstract
Background: Childbearing age below 20 years old can cause greater risk of morbidity and mortality due to pregnancy. One of the causes maternal mortality is hypertension during pregnancy including preeclampsia. There is 85% low-birth-weight newborn in the motherhood age less than 20 years old in Indonesia.
Objective: To know the relationship between childbearing age below 20 years old and pre-eclampsia, low-birth-weight newborn, and preeclampsia accompanied low-birth-weight newborn.
Method: This research uses categorical comparative analytical method with cross sectional design. This research was conducted from September 2015-December 2015 in Atma Jaya Hospital used secondary data medical records and Obstetry and Gynecology Log Book from 2014-2015.
Result: The number of birth in Atma Jaya Hospital from 2014-2015 is 812. Data from 109 respondents was acquired and 15 persons (13,8%) among them are under 20 years old. In this group age there are 2 preeclampsia incidents and 4 low-birth-weight newborns. There is no significant relationship between childbearing age below 20 years old and preeclampsia (p=1,00). There is a significant relationship between childbearing age below 20 years old and low-birth-weight newborn (p=0,012, OR= 8,126). There is no significant relationship between childbearing age below 20 years old and preeclampsia accompanied low-birth-weight newborn (p=0,826)
Conclusion: Childbearing age below 20 years old is not related with preeclampsia but can increase risk of low-birth-weight newborn 8 time bigger compared to mothers aged 20-35 years old.
