Abstract
Background : The era of globalization, few nutrition-related problems has happened in Indonesia, especially obesity. Overweight and obesity is found mainly in adult, adolescents and school age children. This problem was resulted because of the positive imbalance when energy intake is bigger than energy that used for daily activity. One of the main factors that causing this problem was because of the daily lifestyle change with reduced physical activity and increased sedentary behaviour. Therefore this research was conducted to find the relationship between physical activity with BMI in late adolescent.
Methods : The study was conducted using cross-sectional method that performed at the Medical Faculty of Catholic University of Indonesia Atma Jaya (FKUAJ). The sampling method is random-sampling. A total of 104 student respondents participated, they were given questionnaire, their height and waight was measured and after that we get their BMI. Fisher's exact test analysis was used to find out the relationship between physical activity with BMI in late adolescent.
Results : The majority of respondents is female (62,5%). Most of the respondents are in the age of 21 years old (72,1%). About 73,1% of the respondents is classified with
enough physical activity. About 56,7% of the respondents is classified with normal BMI. There is significant relationship between physical activity with BMI (pvalue< 0.05).
Conclusion : There is association between physical activity with BMI, people who do enough physical activity will have normal BMI.
