Abstract
Background: Fruit drink sachet is one type of drinks that is popular among the society. Many various brands of the fruit drink sachet had been found. In their advertisements, fruit drink sachet had always been claimed as antioxidant source. Therefore, the drinks are needed to be tested to detect antioxidant activity in them.
Methods: In-vitro experiment. The samples are four sachets of fruit drinks with different brands. They were tested with DPPH method, which was set at 517 nm. By this, we acquired FRSA percentage as reference value to determine the antioxidant activity. Experiment datum were analyzed statistically with one-way ANOVA method on 95% confidence level.
Results: The experiment showed two out of four sachets had antioxidant activity, which was proved from the positive FRSA percentage value (above 0): 73,71% and 67,62%. On contrary, the remaining two sachets did not confirm to have antioxidant activity, which was proved from the negative FRSA percentage value (below 0): -24,76% and -44,57%. The results indicated that fruit drink sachets do not always give antioxidant activity because there are many substances contained in the sachets which may influence the chemical reactions.
Conclusion: Two out of four sachets of fruit drinks have antioxidant activity. Meanwhile, another two sachets do not show to have antioxidant activity.
