Isi artikelTeaching adult beginners can be troublesome in communicative language teaching. Adult beginners, who usually have gone through at least ten years of schooling and may then have gone on to study a higher level, are expected to interact with others communicatively; yet, their level of English proficiency hinders them in doing so. As a result, teachers seek alternative teaching techniques, which meet their level of proficiency and at the same time enable them to intermingle and communicate with others. Thus, this article purposes an alternative way in teaching adult beginners, whose English competence is satisfactorily low, by marrying the drilling techniques, which offers beginners with sufficient practices of the target language, with cooperative learning techniques, which enable them to use the language to interact with others in the classroom.
