Along with the ageing of population, there is a shift from acute diseases to chronic diseases with disabilities, thus requiring the use of caregiver for the elderly. Caring for the elderly is often a burden for the caregiver, which in turn causes stress. This research was intended to find out the prevalence of stress in caregivers of the elderly on the regency of Cideng, along with the characteristics of the caregivers, and the cause of stress in caregivers. Methods : This research used a descriptive study with a cross-sectional approach on all caregivers of the elderly on the regency of Cideng. Respondents were interviewed with the DASS-42 questionnaire and questionnaire about the cause of stress, which was based on the theoretical framework of the research. Result : From 40 respondents, 18 (45%) were stressed. The characteristics of caregivers who experience the most stress are women (37,5%), aged 15-59 years old (42,5%), intermediate-level education (35%), is the child of the elderly (30%), and cares the elderly for 21-40 hours per week. The most common cause of stress was the dependency of the elderly / ADL (88,89%), behavioural problems of the elderly (66,67%), the inability of the elderly to use daily instruments / IADL (55,6%), and workload (55,6%). Conclusion : The prevalence of stress in caregivers on the regency of Cideng is 45%. Characteristic of the caregivers who experience the most stress is those aged 15-59 years old.
