Abstract
Background : Appendicitis is an inflammation of the appendix vermiformis, caused by obstruction of the lumen due to a tumor or a foreign body, increasing of intraluminal pressure, ischemic, bacterial infections, and can also be caused due to blockage of feces (fecalith or appendicolith), lymphoid hyperplasia, vegetables or grains, and parasites. Most patients with appendicitis may experience adynamic
ileus or paralytic ileus. There is no clear data on the prevalence of paralytic ileus in acute or perforatedappendicitis in Indonesia.
Methods : The design of this research is the analytic category research with the
cross sectional approachment. The samples are patients of acute and perforated
appendicitis at Atma Jaya Hospital. Data samples are taken using the medical records of patients with acute and perforation appendicitis Atma Jaya Hospital2010-2014.
Result : The prevalence of paralytic ileus in appendicitis amounted to 54.1%. There is a significant difference between the prevalence of paralytic ileus in acute appendicitis and paralytic ileus in appendicitis perforation (p <0.0001). The prevalence of paralytic ileus in acute appendisits is 32.7%, while in perforated appendicitis is 75.5%.
Conclusion : The conclusion of this researchis a significant difference between the prevalence of paralytic ileus in acute and perforated appendicitis, in which the prevalence of paralytic ileus in perforated appendicitis ishigher than acute
appendicitis.
