The development of reading skills serves as the major foundational academic ability for all school-based learning. Without the ability to read, the opportunities for academic and occupational success are limited indeed. Moreover, because of its importance, difficulty in learning to read crushes the excitement and love for learning. Reading English text for EFL students is not a simple thing to do. What is reading and how do you teach someone to read in foreign language are very broad questions to answer. Many people say that they know how to define reading but they can not find the right words to define it. However, what they define simply shows the result of reading, not the process itself. How do we teach reading better if we do not deliberately know the core point of reading. If we understand the process better, perhaps we can do a better job of helping our students become better readers. Reading is considered as a complex activity which is done not only by converting written language to spoken language reading aloud- but also building up meaning by working through a text, left to right (in the case of English) converting letters into words, words into phrases, phrases into sentences. Such a process requires the reader to know everything on the page very clearly in a step by step process- similar to doing a math problem. However, reading process is not really like that. Eye movements of readers show that their eyes do not move smoothly over the page. In short, reading is acquiring information from a written or printed text and relating it to what we already know to construct a meaning for the text as a whole. To come to this reading activity, reading is then considered as a psychological process. Having this awareness of reading practices, in the teaching and learning reading for the EFL students teachers should think of both the product and process of reading. Therefore, they needs to always think of innovative way of teaching the EFL students reading comprehension. Since reading is as a psycholinguistic process and socio cultural practices and individual behavior, mental modeling can be taken into account as an effective pedagogic strategy in Reading Instruction for EFL students.
