Background. Executive function is a part of cognitive function that modulates thoughts and actions. Factors that affects executive function are caffeine, GPA and sleep quality. Sleep is a physiological process that is needed by every individuals. Research on sleep quality on executive function has been done to several subjects, but a few has been done to medical students, where executive function is very crucial in medical profession. Tower of Hanoi (TOH) is one of many tools that have been used to measure executive function by solving 9 problems with different levels of difficulty, interesting and also challenging for the participants. Aim. This study aims to know the impact of sleep quality of the executive function Methods. Cross sectional study on 52 medical students of Atma Jaya Catholic University. Samples are obtained using the purposive sampling method. Results and Conclusion. There are 18 male participants and 34 female participants with the age of 20-21 years old. In this experiment, 17(32.7%) participants have a good sleep quality and 35(67.3%) participants obtained has poor sleep quality. Significant difference in the number of steps taken are seen in problem 4,8, and 9 (p<0,05), while significant difference of the duration taken to solve the problem can be seen in problem 2,4,8 and 9 (p<0,05) out of 9 problems of TOH that was solved. Conclusion of this experiment is that sleep quality may affect executive function. |
