Isi artikelBackground: Learning style relates with individual characteristic and various instruments preferred ways of gathering, interpreting, organizing, and thinking about information. Many observations can be implemented in educational institution. Information about students's learning style is very essential to improve the teaching¬learning process. Objectives: To understand students learning styles and its correlation with GPA for first year student. Methods: Student learning style data obtained from self-administered VARK questionnaires which consist of 13 questions, measurement based on quantifying result to determine learning styles single modality or multi modality. Student academic achievement data obtained from secondary data consist of first year student grade point average (GPA). The 117 data of 131 students were analyzed with SPSS 11 using frequency descriptive method, Pearson correlation statistical test, and Mann Whitney non parametric test. Results: There are 13 variations of learning style from 117 students, the major variation respectively R=33 (28,2%), K=31 (26,5%),A=19 (16,2%), V= 9 (7,7%),AK=S (4,3%), VK=4 (3,4%), RK=4 (3,4%), VK=4 (3,4%), VAK=4 (3,4%), AR=2 (1,7%), VA=2 (1,7%), VRK=2 (1,7%), VR=1 (0,9%), ARK=1 (0,9%). Result subdividing data in single modality 91 (77,8%) and multi modality 26 ( 22,2%). There was no significant correlation between learning styles V,A,R, and K and GPA (p>0,05). There is no difference between learning styles single modality with multimodality to GPA (p>0,05) Conclusion: Major learning styles are single modality with Reading type. There is no significant correlation between learning style, and there is also no difference between single modality and multimodality towards GPA.
