Isi artikelBackground: Indeed, all university especially Islamic University of Indonesia (IUI) hope the prospectus student fulfill standard requirement. Private universities also IUI sometimes get problem for getting best new students. Even though the university have made entrance examination to select the best new student, the result has not the satisfied to address the need. In so far the quality of student input is determined by entrance examination. This research is conducted to reveal the correlation between entrance examination point and Grade Point Average (GPA) of medical student. Method: This research used secondary data of entrance examination point from Islamic University of Indonesia and Grade Point Average (GPA) of medical student IUI year 2005. Data were analyzed using Pearson Correlation. Result: The correlation between entrance examination point (UPCM) and GPA of medical student IUI is low and negative. This result reveal that student input of medical faculty IUI have not addressed on qualification yet as we hope. It is necessary to create some innovation to select student input in line with PBL method. Conclusion: In accordance with PBL method in medical faculty IUI, it should be considered the criteria of qualified student that will fit the PBL method, medical faculty should design the certain selection test for specific purpose. This selection test will distinguish for recruiting new student with other faculties. IUI especially medical faculty should consider the other models for new student selection by conducting research to evaluate the new model of selection process.
