Abstract
Background: The problem of obesity can occur in all age groups, from children, teenagers and adults. In children, the incidence of overweight and obesity is a serious problem because it will continue into adulthood. In Jakarta alone prevalence of nutritional status classified as obese for age group 6-12 years in 2013 was 30.1%. The level of one's knowledge about obesity influence the attitudes and behavior patterns of eating and physical activity. This study aims to determine the factors that influence overweight in elementary school children.
Methods: This research is a descriptive analytic survey. Sampling was done by quota sampling with 83 samples. Data collected by primary data and secondary data by distributing questionnaires and interviews with the respondents. The data was then processed using SPSS.
Results: The results showed that there was no relation between knowledge and attitude (p=0.153), there was no relation between knowledge and eating behavior (p=0.055), there was no relation between knowledge and physical activity behavior (p=0.507). A similar trend can also be seen in relation between attitude and eating behavior (p=0.674), and the relation between attitude and physical activity behavior (p= 0.148). There is no relationship between nutritional status and knowledge (p=0.906), nutritional status and attitude (p=1), nutritional status and eating behavior (p=0.994), nutritional status and physical activity behavior (p=0.468).
Conclusions: No association was found between knowledge and attitudes, knowledge and eating behaviors, knowledge and physical activity, attitudes and eating behavior, attitudes and physical activity behavior. There was a corelation between gender and physical activity behavior. No associations were found between nutritional status and knowledge, nutritional status and attitude, nutritional status and eating behavior and nutritional status and physical activity behavior.
