Background: nutrition is one of the problem which still unresolved because it’s not only malnutrition but also obesity which cause many problems. Lifestyle constitute one of the factors that influence obesity. Breakfast skipping is one of the habbits that allegedly associated with the incidence of obesity. This research looks relationship between breakfast and body mass indeks (BMI) on on Students of the Faculty of Medicine of Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia Batch 2012. Methods: this was a cross-sectional study design by distribute food record questionnares to student and then briefing them to equate the perceptions about food portions. They will record all of foods and drinks that they consume for three days (2 weekdays and 1 day off). Results: results from this study showed 68,8% had breakfast, 46,5% had normal BMI, 45,3% with breakfast calorie intake <15%, 45,2% consume carbohydrate between 45% - 60%, 48,2% consume protein <15%, 40% consume fat between 25% - 30%, 37,6% with daily calory intake 80% - 120%, and 45,6% subjects that breakfast and had normal BMI. There is a relationship between breakfast and body mass indeks with p = 0.008 (p<0.05). Conclusion: most of the students have a breakfast habit in the morning. Many of them have normal BMI. From the result obtained there is a relationship between breakfast and body mass indeks. |
