Abstract
Background : Acne vulgaris is a disease which is multifactorial complex , where one of the causes are foods with a high glycemic index and high glycemic load . Consumption of high glycemic index foods can increase blood sugar and when consumed regularly it can cause hyperinsulinemia. Hyperinsulinemia cause increased levels of insulin - like growth factor 1, which led to the occurrence of hyperkeratinosit .
Methodology : Analytic cross sectio
nal study. The study was conducted on pre-clinical medical student of Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia, with total sample of 90 peoples. The data collection was executed by using food frequency questionnaire(FFQ) and GAGS scoring system for AV and statistically processed with statistic program. The data analisis using Mann Whitney test with 95% confidence level (a = 0,05) Results : The incidence of AV in 90 respondents is 100 %. In a total of 90 respondents, it was found that 50 of them have a high level of consumption in foods with high glycemic index and glycemic load (55.6 %). 50 respondents also have a high level of consumption of high glycemic index foods (54.4 %), while 49 respondents have a high level of consuming high glycemic load foods (51.1 %). Bivariate analysis showed that a mild severity of AV based on GAGS in 43 respondents who frequently eat foods with high glycemic index and high glycemic load (86%) with p = 0.058 Conclusion : There is no relationship between high glycemic index and high glycemic load foods with the severity of acne vulgaris
