Abstract
Background: Acinetobacter baumanii is a species of Gram negative bacteria that displays a high capability of antibacterial resistance. It usually infects patient in Intensive Care Unit, thus eliminating infection of this bacteria is hard due to the uses of more novel antibacterial that has worse side effects for the patients.In other hand new antimicrobial substance is being discovered from plant extract. One of those plants is Temulawak. Temulawak has shown a promising antibacterial property against Gram positive bacteria, however there is much to learn and discover abaout it’s efficacy on Gram negative bacteria. Methods: This is an in vitro experimental research. The Temulawak’s rhizome is extracted using maceration for 5 days with Ethanol 70% and the antimicrobial testing is carried out with dilution method continued with pour plate method. The research uses concentration of 10%, 12,5%, 15%, 17,5%, 20%, 22,5%, 25%. Results: The extract did not kill the bacteria in any of the selected concentration however it manages to decrease the growth of bacteria however the decrement is insignificant based on Kruskal-Wallis test with p = 0.07. Conclusions: The ethanol extract of temulawak’s rhizome did not manage to kill all the bacteria in all concentration, however seeing that there is a decremental value on bacterial growth, Temulawak might still hace a capability on Gram negative bacteria
