Background: Candidiasis is the infection caused by Candida species. Predisposing factors of this infection are diabetes mellitus, immunocompromised patient, immunodeficiency patient and patient who take chemotherapy, radiotherapy or immunosuppressant therapy. Laboratory test to detect candidiasis includes microscopic examination, gram staining, culture and identification based on germ tube test result. Objective: to investigate incidence of candidiasis and to assess the clinical and laboratory aspect of its disease Research method: Research is conducted in Laboratory of Clinical Pathology of Dr Sardjito Hospital from August - October 2005. In this cross sectional study specimens taken from urine, sputum, blood and other body fluids for culture purposes. The growth culture then identified by gram staining, microscopic examination as well as germ tube test. Clinical factors of each patient are also assessed in this study. Reability of the germ tube test is measured by determining Kappa index. Result: It is found 32 cases of candidiasis where 11 cases of them caused by Candida albican. Most of clinical spesimen is urines. Clinical condition of patient mostly is patient with imunocompromised with age range from 40 to 79 years old. Rresult of sensitivity test shows that nystatine is the most resistant anti fungal followed by myconazole, ketoconazole, and amphotericin B. Conclusion: incidence of candidiasis is found more often in imunocompromised patient i.e. 18 out of 32 candidiasis cases. Nystatine is the most resistant anti fungal followed by myconazole, ketoconazole, and amphotericin B.
