Isi artikelBackground: The hematological laboratory results sometimes not relevant with patient's condition. This can caused by preanalytical step error one of them is improper blood volume to anticoagulant concentration ratio such as the excess of anticoagulant which used to prevent the cooagulation of blood specimen. Objectives: The purpose of this research is to observe the effect of Na2EDTA concentration toward several haematology parameters alteration. Methods: Thirty three blood samples are used, which are obtained from venous puncture. The subjects are male students of Faculty of Medicine Gadjah Mada University. Two mililiters blood is divided into 4 Na2EDTA-containing tubes. Each tubes are filled with different Na2EDTA concentration. The first tube contain 1 mg Na2EDTA- ideal blood volume to anticoagulant concentration ratio- as control, the rest tubes contain each 2 mg, 3 mg and 4 mg N2EDTA. These samples are immediately examined by using SYSMEX SE-9500 automatic analyzer. Result: Almost all of the haematology parameters underwent significant alteration due to excessive Na2EDTAconcentration except MCV, MCH, and RDW values. Conclusion : Excessive anticoagulant usage in blood samples should be avoided to obtain accurate haematology examination results.
