Isi artikelBackground: Incidence of systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) is considerably high especially in patients who undergo surgical treatment. One third of patients with SIRS may suffer from sepsis. SIRS is one of complication in open heart surgey that is unovoidable. Clinical manifestations is vary from mild which is clinically not significance up to severe so that can give rise to death. Objective: The objective of this study is to review the efforts how to prevent and manage SIRS in open heart surgery based on experience in Dr. Sardjito Hospital in order to minimize morbidity and mortality in the period of post open heart surgery Discussion and Conclusion: Treatment with metilprednisolon both at the beginning and after of performance of extra corporal circulation in order to minimize the occurrence of SIRS in open heart surgery clinically is less satisfaction. Experience in Dr. Sardjito Hospital that apply hemofiltration that is activated at the end of extra corporal circulation in addition to treatment with metilprednisolon both at the beginning and after of performance of extra corporal circulation. Clinical outcome shows that mortality of patients in the period of post open heart surgery is lower after application of metilprednisolon treatment in combination with hemofiltration.
