Isi artikelBackground: Distal radius fractures are common injuries. accounting for 8%-15% of elderly fractures. Management of this fractures is varies from non surgical with long arm cast and surgical using k wire, external fixation and plate & screw. There were several outcome evaluation instruments on distal radial fracture, based on surgeon and patients point of view. This study use grip strength measurement. ROM & X ray evaluation and Quick DASH measurement to represent the surgeon and patients point of view respectively. Methods: Prospective cohort study, fifty six patients with displaced distal radial fracture are allocated to either operative treatment with percutaneous pinning fixation (twenty-six patients) or non-operative treatment with long arm cast (thirty patients) since July 2007 until December 2008. The grip strength, ROM & x Ray evaluation and Quick DASH score are evaluated in six month post treatment. Result and Conclusion: The percutaneous pinning group had significantly better Quick DASH score X Ray Evaluation at six month of follow-up. The Range of motion and Grip Strength had no significant differences between percutaneous pinning and long Arm cast group at month of follow-up. Operative fixation using percutaneous pinning of displaced distal radial fracture on elderly female resulted in better functional outcome compared to non-operative treatment at six months of follow-up. This study supports percutaneous pinning fixation as a therapy of choice of displaced distal radial fractures in elderly female patients.
