Abstract
Background. Infection of JCV was often associated with pre-malignant lesion. Only few researches which detect expression of JCV in colon adenomatous polyp, including in Indonesia. The goal of this research was to detect the expression of JCV T-Antigen on mild and severe dysplasia of the colon adenomatous polyp at Anatomic Pathology Laboratory, School of Medicine Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia/ Atma Jaya Hospital, Jakarta.
Method. Analytic descriptive, cross-sectional study, all of the samples’ paraffin blocks were taken from colon adenomatous polyp with all degrees of dysplasia for 5 years (2009-2014). These samples would be reviewed from the HE slides to determine the histopathological diagnosis and the degree of the dysplasia. Immunohistochemistry staining with monoclonal antibody anti SV40-T-Ag would be used to detect expression of JCV T-Ag.
Result. There were 7 samples of colon adenomatous polyp, 4 (57.1%) samples were mild dysplasia and 3 (42.8%) samples were severe dysplasia. Positive expression of JCV T-Ag was detected in 1 (14%) mild dysplasia of colon adenomatous polyp. Amount of 6 (86%) samples of mild and severe dysplasia of colon adenomatous polyp expressed negative JCV T-Ag. Data analysis result of JCV T-Ag expression in mild and severe dysplasia of colon adenomatous polyp using Fisher’s Exact Test was p > 0.05.
Conclusion. There was no difference of JCV T-Ag expression between mild and severe dysplasia of colon adenomatous polyp.
