Isi artikelBackground: Pre-analytical carelessness can influence the result of electrolyte analysis for No, K, and CI. Serum separation, the choice, and the use of appropriate tube are included in pre-analytical stage. Serum Separator Tube (SST) is a tube used to collect blood as well as to separate serum which has clot activator and polymer gel. This study is conducted to know whether there is a different result of No, K, and CI values between the blood collected using glass tube and SST. Design and Method: 30 samples which meet inclusion criteria were gathered consecutively to be evaluated the value of Na, K, and CI. Blood specimens were taken and collected in two types of tubes, glass tube and SST. The collected serum were analyzed their value of No, K, and CI using Automatic Clinical Chemistry Analyzer at the same time. Result: The mean of Na value of the blood collected using glass tube was 140.93 mmol/L, while using SST was 140.63 mmol/L (p=0.437). The mean of K value of the blood collected using glass tube was 3.94 mmol/L while using SST was 3.98 mmol/L ( p= 0.706). The mean of blood CI collected using glass tube was 102.5 mmol/L, while using SST was 102.47 mmol/L (p 0.923). Conclusion: There is no significant difference between Na, K, and CI value of the blood collected using glass tube and SST. The glass tube can be used universally to collect and to separate serum as good as SST
