Background: Recently the number of hypertension cases has become increose; obout 90% of them are idiopathic hypertension. An investigation was carried out to find out the difference of the activity of simphatic tonus between the group with the family history of hypertension and group without the family history of hypertension. Design and Methods: The 28 subjects (mean of age=20 years) of this research were randomly included and divided into 2 groups: group I (students with family history of hypertension) and group II (students without family history of hypertension). Blood pressure was recorded before and after Cold Pressure Test (CPT) by mercurial sphygmomanometer. The difference of blood pressure before and after CPT was analyzed by Wilcoxon's test and Mann-Whitney test. Result: There was an increased in either systolic or diastolic blood pressure mean before and after CPT for the two groups. Statistically, this was not significant. Conclusion: There was difference in systolic and diastolic blood pressures before and after CPT for the two groups
