Isi artikelThe Human Genome Projects had a remarkable achievement by completing the human genome sequence in 2001. The role of genomics for medical practices need to be considered in the context of strategies to improve the health of populations. In Indonesia, where peoples are still suffering from the effects of poverty. lacking of basic health systems, having a high prevalence of infectious diseases, and facing the increasing health burden of an genome discovery will gain a deep insight. However, it must be emphasized that mo-lecular genetics may not replace the well-established pattem of medical prac-tice and research. The sophisticated tools of molecular genetics need to be integrated into current approaches to clinical investigation. Without a unified approach it is unlikely that the potential of such tools for the improvement of health care will be realized. In the post genomics era, pharmacogenomics holds the promise that drugs might one day be tailored-made for individuals and adapted to each person's response own genetic makeup. Environment, diet, age, lifestyle, and state of health all can influence a person's to medicine, but understanding an individual's genetics makeup is though to be the key to creating personalized drugs with greater efficacy and safety.
