Isi artikelIntroduction: Genomics have been developing rapidly for decades. However, the genomics activities in some developing countries may not be so high. This study aimed to map the ongoing genomics activities in the institutions in Indonesia in 2007. Methods: Mailing questionnaire and open-ended interview consist of questions about genomics-related activities and services were conducted in some medical faculties and institutions. Results: There were 61.4% respondents who gave response; of those, 35.1% of the respondent did not fill in the questionnaire due to no activities. Only 26.3% respondent met the criteria for the study. The most developed genomics medicine service is molecular diagnostic (66.7%) and detection of mutation (55.6%). Most of the institutions, except faculty of medicine, applied the genomics medicine for bioinformatics (33.3%) and mutation detection (33.3%). Inter-institutions collaboration in genomics medicine using information technology has not gain attention. However, exchanges in information were more favorable (73.3%). All institutions were interest to build networking, faculty of medicine (88.9%), non-faculty of medicine (83.3%), resectively. Conclusion: This study indicated that genomics-related activities and services in institutions in Indonesia have not been so high. These findings may be due to minimal respond of the study unit. Need a lot of efforts to be carried out to avoid the genome illiterate and to improve the level of health in the years to come.
