Worldwide estimate of acid sulphate soils is 12 million ha. In Indonesia, the acid sulphate soils were estimated 1.5 million ha, underlying tidal swampland, coastal estuaries and flood plains. The soils are characterized by very low pH and high amount of soluble S and Fe, resulted from oxidation of pyrite when soils are drained. This study was aimed to determine acidity pattern, iron and sulphate solubility as the impact of the length time of oxidized of upper soils and sulphidic. materials. The materials are: (1) soils at pyritic layer (sulphidic materials) and (2) soils at 0 - 20, 20 - 40 and 40 - 60 em from soil surface. Soils is sampled at Barambai reclaimed area, Barito Kuala Regency, South Kalimantan Province. In the laboratory soils incubated for two weeks as submerged condition. After incubation period, soils are air-dried for 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 weeks. Each of treatments is replicated 3 times. Parameters of soil analysis include pH, sulphate and iron soluble. Results of this study showed that (1) soil acidity rate pattern of sulphidic materials more faster than the upper soils (0 - 60cm) when upper soils and sulphidic materials oxidized. Upper soils and sulphidic materials has the same pH value at fourweeks theirs oxidized, (2) Solubility of iron of upper soils and sulphidic materials increased until two weeks theirs oxidized and iron solubility not significantly different after five weeks theirs oxidized, and (3) Solubilityof sulphate of uppersoils only increased until two weeks theirs oxidized, where as solubility of sulphate of sulphidic materials kept increased as length of theirs oxidized increased.
