Abstract
This thesis is intended to investigate LBPP LIA Pramuka students attitude and motivation to learn English for the two programs namely English for Adult and Conversation in English. It also attempted to examine the relationship between students’ attitude and their scores and students’ motivation and their scores.
Four questions were asked in this research. The first question was aimed to describe students’ attitude towards learning English. The second sought to examine the relationship between the students’ attitude and their score. Third question addressed to describe students’ motivation. The last question examined the relationship between the students’ motivation and their scores.
The study was carried out with 220 students at LBPP LIA Pramuka using survey design on a five-point-Likert scale. The data were analyzed through Descriptive Analysis and Spearman correlation Analysis. SPSS version 22 for Windows was employed during the analyses.
The result of this research brings about four points. First, the students were identified with high score of attitude (cognition and affect) and moderate score for attitude (behavior). Second, the students’ attitude was significantly related to their scores. Third, students had low score for integrative motivation (social) and moderate score for integrative motivation (community and ethnolinguistics). Moreover, students had low scores for instrumental motivation (internalized motive) and high score for instrumental motivation (ought-to self). Finally, it was found that the students’ motivation had no relationhip with their scores.
The researcher finds necessary to have further analysis due to the fact students gave low score for the integrative motivation. Other aspect like social aspect should come into consideration. Furthermore, mixed methodology is needed to enrich the research result.
