Background : Cigarette is a roll of tobacco or clove (about the size of little finger) that is covered (by palm leaf, paper). Based on the data from the World Health Organization (WHO), the number of people who died because of cigarette annually is 6 million people. The tendency of smoking in 15 to 19-year-old teenager in Indonesia is predicted increasing 6-fold from 7,1% (1995) to 43,3% (2010). Based on the data from the Riskesdas (2013), the percentage of the 10 to 14-year-old teenager is 1,4%. Methods : The design of this research is the analytic category descriptive research with the cross sectional approachment. The sample is the entire of Permai Pluit Junior High School student. The students are given the modified GYTS questionnaire to know the level of knowledge about cigarette, the attitude towards cigarette, and the smoking behavior. Result : There is a significant difference of the level of knowledge between male students and female students (p = 0,048). There is no significant difference of the attitude towards cigarette and the smoking behavior between male students and female students (p = 0,465, p = 0,214, respectively). There is no significant difference of the level of knowledge, the attitude towards cigarette, and the smoking behavior between the first, the second, and the third graders of junior high school (p = 1, p = 0,35, p = 1, respectively). Conclusion : The conclusion of this research is that the Permai Pluit Junior High School students have enough knowledge about cigarette, positive attitude towards cigarette, and they don’t smoke. On the comparison of the level of knowledge about cigarette, there is a significant difference between male students and female students, but not on the attitude towards cigarette and smoking behavior. . On the comparison of the level of knowledge about cigarette, the attitude towards cigarette, and smoking behavior there is no significant difference between the first, the second, and the third graders of junior high school. |
