Isi artikelFor the March 2009 issue (Vol. 40, No. 2), I wrote a brief editorial entitled “A Retrospective on the Beginnings of JCCP and IACCP.” My comments were part of the recognition that we were celebrating the Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology’s 40th anniversary and that the International Association for Cross-Cultural Psychology would soon observe if not celebrate its own 40th anniversary. In it I mentioned that a number of key individuals who have been at the center of editorial activity in recent years agreed to join me in preparing an analysis of JCCP’s first four decades. Thus, the first and main article in this special section is made up of three somewhat independent but highly complementary activities. First, former editor Peter B. Smith (1996–2001) agreed to work on an analysis concerning the question, “Who is reading us?” That is, what is the evidence of JCCP’s influence in terms of how it has been referenced in relevant psychology journals? Second, Fons Van de Vijver, who succeeded Peter as editor (serving until mid-2007 when David Matsumoto was appointed editor), prepared a report summarizing the history of JCCP’s “Impact Factor”—the IF being a popular way to help determine any journal’s influence.
