Abstract
EIMD is microstructural damage to the muscle after exercise, especially by
eccentric contraction. EIMD causes a decrease in muscle function that cause an
athlete unable to compete or train optimally during the recovery period. CWI is the
most popular muscle recovery method and frequently applied after physical activity.
The purpose of this literature study is to assess the effectiveness of the
method and application of CWI on EIMD
This literature study use 10 studies to compare the effectiveness of each CWI method.
The studys originated from 2008 to 2015 and the form study is randomized clinical
trial, randomized crossover design and counter balanced.
The effectiveness of CWI application turned out to provide a different effect
on the EIMD’s parameter, namely: muscle soreness, creatine kinase activity and
myoglobin as well as a decrease in muscle function. The effectiveness of the
application CWI likely influenced by the CWI methods that is used, among other
things: water temperature, duration, schedule and the depth of immersion.
