Pomegranate (Punica granatum) is one of the worldwide trending topics in the recent years. The journal of “Journal of Medicinal Food” and “Revue Méd” in 2013 states that pomegranate peel and seed extract have some effects on wound healing. This research is experimental, using Sprague Dawley white mice (Rattus norvegicus) as the sample that got wound intervention, smeared by pomegranate peel and seed extract, and then observed in 13 days by measuring the wound length every 3 days. In this research, there are 4 groups that got different intervention, which are the negative control, positive control (Bioplacenton®), pomegranate peel extract, and pomegranate seed extract. This research was held in “Veterinarian Faculty of Bogor Agriculture University” on April and May 2015. The result of this research is that Bioplacenton®, pomegranate peel extract, and pomegranate seed extract are effective on wound healing, marked by a < 0,05 compared to the negative control. Bioplacenton® and pomegranate peel extract have the same effectiveness. Pomegranate seed extract is less effective compared to Bioplacenton® and pomegranate peel extract. The conclusion of this research is the usage of pomegranate peel and seed extract topically can accelerate the wound healing process. |
