Abstract
Coagulase-negative staphylococci (CoNS) are important causes of bloodstream infection, especially in immunocompromised patients. A descriptive study was performed by reviewing blood, sputum and urine culture and susceptibility reports from January 2013 until September 2014 in microbiology laboratory Faculty of Medicine, Atma Jaya Catholic University, Jakarta, using WHO-NET 5.3 program. A total of 98 CoNS isolates were collected. Thirty nine originated from blood, 42 originated from sputum and 17 originated from urine. The most common isolates of CoNS that was included in this study were Staphylococcus epidermidis (50%) followed by Staphylococcus sciuri (21.43%). Most coagulase-negative staphylococcal clinical isolates were resistant to ampicillin (96.7%), cefixim (85.5%), and cefoxitin (81.2%).
