Isi artikelIntroduction: intracranial large artery atherosclerosis is an important cause of stroke worldwide. Distribution of atherosclerotic vascular lesions in the intracranial posterior circulation has not been as well documented as in the anterior circulation. The study of intracranial stenosis of stroke patients in Indonesia is very limited. Method: The design of the study is cross sectional study. The data was obtained from TCD registry of 234 consecutive patients. Risk factors documentation was performed systematically. TCD examination was performed using TD-DOP 9000 equipment with a 2-MHz probe for the examination of intracranial circulation. The stenosis of posterior circulation was defined when PSV >90 cm/s or MFV >60 cm/s. Result: The data was obtained from 234 patients. Stenosis was present in 38% cases. Stenosis in anterior circulation is more common. The posterior circulation stenosis was present in 17% cases. Multiple site stenosis (either in anterior and posterior circulation) was present in 63% cases. The most common risk factors are hypertension and dyslipidemia, Hypertension was present in 72% cases. Dyslipidemia and diabetes were present in 38% and 24% cases respectively. Conclusion: Intracranial stenosis was present in more than 30% stroke patients. The posterior cerebral circulation is less common than the anterior site. The most prevalent risk factors are hypertension and dyslipidemia.
