This trial was a multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study that carried on to evaluate Psidii folium extract effect in increasing the thrombocytes count of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) patients. The study was carried on from December 2006 to June 2007 in RSU Soetomo Surabava, RS Hasan Sadikin Bandung, and RS Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo Jakarta. All pediatric patients being diagnosed DHF and willing to give informed consent were included. Patients with hematology abnormality, heart and lung disease, salicylic acid treatment, severe hemorrhagic condition, and descent consciousness were excluded. Patients were randomly allocated into two groups test group or placebo group. The test group was given one tea-spoon of Psidii folium extract three times a day while the control group was given the placebo extract with the same dose and frequency. Thrombocytes were count¬ed every day until the patient recovered. Furthermore, the changes of thrombocyte count from start to end were analyzed using t-iIndependent-test (to analyze the difference of changes between groups) and chi-square (to analyze the response rate between groups). In this trial of 86 subjects, the thrombocyte count of the test group was significantly increased compared with the control group (p = 0.01) and the Increasing of thrombocyte response rate in the test group was significantly different from that in the control group (40 vs 23, p = 0.01). In conclusion, the results of this trial have proven that Psidii folium extract could treat thrombocytopenia.
