Tissue damage (including lips) caused by free radicals from air pollution, smoking, or consuming rancid food can be anticipated by radical scavenger, an antioxidant which can reliefs or stops the radical reaction on tissue. Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate (MAP), a stable hydrophilic antioxidant having properties as moisturizer and collagen production stimulants, was proposed to be formulated into lipstick, in order to overcome the prob¬lems. Because of its hydrophilic property, MAP was encapsulated first into liposome in order to be able to reach the dermis layer. Reverse Phase Evaporation method was used to establish MAP Ii¬posome, made into three formulas using lecithin and cholesterol with the ratio of 10: 1 (formula I), 10: 2 (formula II), and 10: 3 (for¬mula III). The percentage of MAP entrapped was 62.00%, 67.26%, and 73.44% respectively. Formula III, which is the highest MAP entrapped having particle size of 0,496 µm, was included into lipstick formulation resulting five formulas based on each evalu¬ation. The most excellent lipstick was obtained from the formula V with the most excellent physical appearance, color, polish tex¬ture, homogeneity color dispersion, rigidness of 152 1/10 mm, and melting point of 37,5 °C.
