Isi artikelThe question at the heart of Miller’s Cultural Citizenship is one of individual identity, and in particular how identity is constructed by television viewing. Miller argues that television is the source of knowledge within and about society, declaring that his ‘intention is to shed light on who owns the knowledge that animates society, how they define and communicate that knowledge, and the complex imbrication of politics, economics and culture that colours our barrio’ (p. 23). After defining the book’s ideological stance, he focuses upon that ‘complex imbrication’, utilizing an issue schematic developed by economic critic Will Hutton: the issues being peace and security; trade, aid and health; and the environment.
