It would probably further heighten the experience if you wore a kaftan and smoked marijuana at the same time. For this is a treatise on how Cold War technology intersected with hippie communalism of the 1960s to lay the foundations for computers to be reimagined as tools for personal liberation and the building of virtual and alternative communities. It is common knowledge that the Internet began during the Cold War as an attempt to create a network of computers that would be resilient in case of nuclear attack.
